Screening resumes for healthcare roles

Last updated 7 October 2026 · By the Rezumz team

The short answer

To screen healthcare resumes, first confirm the role-specific requirements that cannot be waived: the right professional registration, current required certifications and the right to work. Then judge experience in the setting and patient group that matches the role. The registration and certificates must be checked at the official register or issuing body, because a CV is a claim, not proof.

Healthcare hiring has hard gates before any judgement of fit: registration with the right regulator, current certifications and the right to work. Candidates also vary in shift pattern and setting, and the role may be urgent. A good process checks the gates early, records what was checked and leaves the human judgement for what matters.

What to look for on a CV

Registration and licence

Look for the professional registration the role needs and its number or status where the CV states it. A CV only says the person holds it. Check it against the regulator's public register before an offer.

Current certifications

Resuscitation, safeguarding, manual handling and similar certificates have expiry dates. Note which are current and which need renewing.

Setting and patient group

Experience on an acute ward, in the community, in mental health or in care homes is different. Match the setting and the type of patient to what the role needs.

Shift pattern and availability

Nights, weekends, rotas and notice periods decide whether a good candidate can actually start. Ask early so you do not lose time on a mismatch.

Gaps and moves

Locum, agency and bank work create short stints that are normal in this field. Ask about them with curiosity, not suspicion.

Mistakes that cost you good candidates

  • Taking registration or certificates on the CV's word. The check is at the register or the issuing body, and it should be recorded.
  • Asking about health, age, pregnancy or family plans while discussing shifts. Ask about availability, not reasons.
  • Treating all clinical experience as equal, when setting and patient group change the skills needed.
  • Losing strong candidates to slow replies in a market where they have several offers.

How Rezumz fits

01Screen at the door with your own questions

Open the role to applications on its own link and ask up to five questions you write, such as whether the candidate holds current registration, can work the shift pattern or has the right to work. A required answer of no flags them for you to review. Nobody is rejected on your behalf.

02Certifications count in the match

Certifications and relevant experience are read from the CV and shown against the role's requirements, with the lines that support each one.

03Ask for details in a form, not in email threads

Send a short form for registration details, availability or references. Candidates answer on a private link with no account, and the answers sit on their record.

04Interviews with a shared scorecard

Panel members rate the same things on the same scale, and the feedback is locked once submitted.

05A record you can show

Notes, decisions, approvals and the offer are on one record with times, which helps when you are asked how a decision was made.

What it doesn't do

  • Rezumz does not verify licences, registrations or certificates, and it does not run background, criminal-record or right-to-work checks. You do those through the official register or an approved provider.
  • It does not post jobs to job boards or schedule shifts. Candidates arrive through your own apply link, your CV inbox, uploads or a CSV import.
  • Rezumz does not run credentialing, occupational health or safeguarding checks. Those follow your organisation's and your country's rules.
  • It is not a medical-records or patient-data system. Do not put patient information in notes.

Checks and rules differ by country and change over time. Treat this page as a guide, not legal advice, and see the Trust Centre for how we handle data and what we do not have yet.

Questions

How do I verify a nurse's registration?

Check the regulator's public register for the country where they are registered, and record the date you checked. Rezumz does not do this for you, but you can note the result on the candidate's record.

Can I ask a healthcare candidate about their health?

Rules differ by country, and in many places questions about health, age or family plans are restricted before an offer. Ask about the ability to do the duties and the availability you need, and take local advice.

Can Rezumz handle the volume of a large hospital?

It is built for small and mid-sized hiring teams. For very high volume with complex credentialing workflows, a dedicated healthcare system may fit better.
