Boolean Search Builder

Type the titles and skills you want and get search strings ready to paste into LinkedIn or Google, with the common ways people write each title already included.

Add at least one job title and the searches appear here.

How the strings are built

Titles go inside one group joined by OR, so any variant matches: ("software engineer" OR "software developer" OR …). Each must-have skill is its own AND term, so a profile has to mention all of them. Put alternatives for the same skill in one entry with a vertical bar, like python|py, and they are grouped with OR. Words you want to avoid become NOT terms in LinkedIn and minus terms in Google.

Nice-to-have skills go into a second, narrower string rather than the main one, because requiring everything is the commonest reason a search returns nobody. Start with the broad string, see how many people come back, then use the narrower one to rank or cut the list.

LinkedIn string versus Google X-ray

The LinkedIn string is for the keywords box in LinkedIn search or LinkedIn Recruiter. Set the location with LinkedIn's own location filter rather than in the string, where it can wrongly exclude people.

The Google X-ray searches use the site: operator to look only at public LinkedIn profile pages, or at publicly posted resumes. They need no LinkedIn account and work well when LinkedIn limits your searches. Results depend on what Google has indexed, so treat them as leads.

Sourcing responsibly

Candidates found this way haven't applied to you. Contact them relevantly and respectfully, say where you found them, and honour a request to stop. Data protection rules in many countries apply to how you store and use what you find. Your searches are built in your browser and are not sent to us.

Questions

What is a Boolean search?

A search that combines words with AND, OR and NOT, and groups them with brackets and quotation marks, so you can describe exactly who you want instead of guessing keywords.

What is an X-ray search?

A Google search limited to one website with site:. Recruiters use it to search LinkedIn profiles or resumes through Google, which often returns different and more complete results than LinkedIn's own search.

Why does my LinkedIn search say the string is too long?

Very long strings can be rejected or cut. Remove some title variations or skills, or split it into two searches.

Does this use AI?

No. It is a set of rules running in your browser, so it is instant and private. Rezumz's own sourcing and screening tools use AI after you sign up.
