Job Description Checker

Paste a job description and get a score and a list of fixes: wording that can put people off, vague hype, missing pay, and requirements that run too long.

Nothing you paste leaves your browser.

What this checks

The checker reads your text for six things: gender-coded wording, phrases that can exclude by age, background or ability, vague or hype words ("rockstar", "wear many hats", "competitive salary"), the requirements (years of experience, a very long list of musts, an entry-level title with senior demands), whether any pay is stated, and the structure (does it say what the person will do, what you offer, where the work happens and what the hiring process is).

Each finding says what it found, why it matters, and what to write instead. The score starts at 100 and loses points for each finding, more for the serious ones, with a small credit for things done well such as stating pay or offering adjustments.

How to read the score

It is a prompt for editing, not a grade on the role or a legal check. It looks at wording and structure with word lists and patterns; it can't tell whether a phrase is fine in your context, and it can't tell if the job itself is good.

The gendered-wording check uses word lists adapted from published research on gendered wording in job adverts (Gaucher, Friesen and Kay, 2011), which found that masculine-coded wording can make a job seem less appealing to some women. Treat a flag as a reason to read that sentence again, not as proof that it excludes anyone.

Your text is analysed in your browser and is never sent to us. Nothing is stored.

A quick way to improve a job description

Start with the fixes marked first: anything that names an age, a birthplace or a physical trait, and any requirement that would not hold up if a candidate asked you why it is needed. Then give the pay range, cut the musts down to the few that are really essential, and move the rest to nice-to-have. Finish by saying where the work happens and what the process looks like, so people know what applying involves.

Rewrite it, then screen against it

Rezumz turns a job description into a clear list of must-have and nice-to-have skills, then scores every CV against it, so the wording you just fixed drives the shortlist.

Questions

Is this a legal check?

No. It flags common wording and structure problems. Rules on job adverts differ by country and state, and you should check the ones that apply to you, especially on pay transparency and discrimination.

Why does it flag words like "lead" or "driven"?

They come from lists of words that research found are coded as more masculine. One or two such words are normal. The tool only flags the wording when there are several and they clearly outnumber the collaborative words.

Does it use AI or send my job description anywhere?

No. It is a set of rules that runs in your browser, so it is instant and private. If you want the wording rewritten for you, the JD Enhancer in Rezumz does that with AI after you sign up.

Why does missing pay lower the score?

A growing number of jurisdictions require a pay range in job adverts, and candidates often skip postings that hide it. The tool can't know your rules, so it flags the gap and leaves the decision to you.
