Screening resumes for finance and regulated roles
Last updated 7 October 2026 · By the Rezumz team
The short answer
To screen finance resumes, match the technical must-haves, such as qualifications, systems and the kind of reporting or analysis done, then check the regulatory status and references that the role requires. For regulated roles, confirm status on the regulator's public register and obtain the references your regulator expects, and keep an auditable record of who decided what.
Finance hiring asks for proof: qualifications, track record and, in regulated roles, a clean regulatory standing. Employers also expect a clear paper trail of the process. A good screening process is evidence-led, consistent across candidates and records its decisions, because someone may later ask how a hire was made.

Qualifications and progress towards them
Professional qualifications, and studies in progress, shape the level of the role. Check the awarding body for what you rely on.
Systems and reporting experience
ERP, consolidation, modelling and reporting tools differ. Match the ones the role uses, shown inside a described piece of work.
Scale and complexity
Number of entities, volumes, currencies and regulatory regimes show real depth. Look for numbers in the CV and ask about them.
Regulatory status
For regulated activities, check the regulator's public register for the person's status. A CV states it, the register confirms it.
References and integrity
Many regulated firms must obtain references covering conduct and fitness. Plan for the time this takes.
Mistakes that cost you good candidates
- Relying on the CV's account of regulatory status instead of checking the register.
- Skipping a written scorecard, which leaves no clear reason for the decision if it is later questioned.
- Treating all finance experience as interchangeable, when audit, tax, treasury and FP&A are different skills.
- Moving fast on an offer before required references and checks are complete.
How Rezumz fits
01Evidence behind every score
Requirements are shown next to the CV lines that support them, so a shortlist can be explained, not just stated.
02Approvals before offers
Ask a named approver to approve a role request or an offer letter. The record shows who approved, when and what changed.
03References and professional details by form
Send candidates a form for referee details or professional details. Answers are stored on the record with a timestamp and the consent notice.
04Decisions and a printable record
Record the decision and the reason, and print the offer's signing record, which shows when it was sent and signed and that it was unchanged.
What it doesn't do
- Rezumz does not verify licences, registrations or certificates, and it does not run background, criminal-record or right-to-work checks. You do those through the official register or an approved provider.
- It does not post jobs to job boards or schedule shifts. Candidates arrive through your own apply link, your CV inbox, uploads or a CSV import.
- Rezumz does not obtain regulatory references or check registers. Those follow your regulator's rules.
- There is no SOC 2 report yet. If your procurement requires one, we are not ready for it. See the Trust Centre for exactly what we hold and what we do not.
Checks and rules differ by country and change over time. Treat this page as a guide, not legal advice, and see the Trust Centre for how we handle data and what we do not have yet.
Questions
How do I check a candidate's regulatory status?
Use the regulator's public register for the country and activity, and record the date of the check. Rezumz stores your notes but does not check registers.
Is Rezumz suitable for a bank?
Not today. Larger regulated institutions usually require a SOC 2 report or similar assurance that we do not have yet. Smaller firms and advisers often use it for screening, interviews and offers.
Can I keep an audit trail of hiring decisions?
Yes. Notes, votes, decisions, approvals and the offer are on one record with times and names.
