How to Message a Recruiter on LinkedIn (Templates That Actually Get Replies)

A LinkedIn message to a recruiter competes with dozens of other messages in their inbox — most get ignored because they're either generic ("I'd love to learn about opportunities at your company") or too long to read in the few seconds a recruiter actually spends on an unsolicited message.

Keep it to 3-5 sentences

A recruiter scanning their inbox isn't going to read a long message from someone they don't know — the goal is to be scannable in seconds, not to make your full case in the first message.

Name the specific role and one concrete reason you're a fit

End with a low-pressure ask

"Would love to connect if there's a fit" or "happy to share more if useful" reads as easy to ignore-or-engage-with — a demanding ask ("can we schedule a call this week?") from a cold message tends to reduce response rates rather than increase them.

Personalize at least one line — don't send the identical message to twenty recruiters

Recruiters can often tell when a message is copy-pasted across many people. Referencing the specific role, team, or something real about the company in one line is usually enough to make it feel individually sent.
